Making the most of your web presence

We know you all appreciate the benefits of cool and funky templates, after all that’s why you’re part of our Joomla Junkie community, but do you know just how important the words on your site are?

I didn’t really appreciate this myself until we teamed up with The Copywriter Online and got Munaiba to professionally write our site. Great copywriting and great templates go hand-in-hand to deliver a professional web presence and we’re stoked! It really is money well-spent.

Special Joomla Junkie copywriting deal

I’ve been chatting to Munaiba and asked her to come up with a special deal for our blog readers. Well, she’s gone one better and come up with two deals! One for blog readers and one for JoomlaJunkie Template Club members. Here they are: (more…)

Joomla.org is converting over to 1.5, are you?

Joomla.org is a huge site with thousands of users and multiple Joomla installs. It appears to be one install, but upon closer inspection of the code you will see that different sections are sometimes more then they appear. The main page which we all know and love is a current build of Joomla, but you might notice the forum is not really Joomla at all. It is HTML added to the header and footer of phpBB. Joomla shop? Yup, it’s 1.5. Joomla developers, yessir, 1.5. The documentation? MediaWiki.

We here at JoomlaJunkie have always felt that Joomla 1.0.x series is super stable, agile, and secure platform due to all the intensive work that has already gone into it over the years. We enjoy developing with it and feel our templates showcase our love for Joomla. However we do see the potential and features in the newest version of Joomla with version 1.5.x. We have been discussing extensively how we will transition over and how to provide our clients with the best possible experience. Much like Joomla.org some of our systems will slowly transform over. You might see a change here and there, and in some cases everything will be transparent. We plan on harnessing the power of the new Joomla versions in our templates, as well as our Web site.

The only question now, is when you do you plan on converting over? Tell us what your plans are either here in the comments, or over on our forum.

Seven guidelines for writing good copy

What is good copy? This is the question everyone would like to know the answer to. There’s probably no one right answer either. What is good copy for one audience or medium won’t necessarily work well for another.

Are there any “must haves” that are pretty universal?

I think there are. Here’s a list of my “must have” qualities for qualifying as good copy. See what you think and feel free to post your list or additions you think are important.

  1. The style must appeal to its target audience
  2. It should be clear what product or service is on offer
  3. Benefits and unique selling propositions should be emphasised
  4. It should answer the implied question “Why this product and not another?”
  5. It should help the reader understand why they need the product or service
  6. It should be interesting and engaging so that the reader wants to know more
  7. And it should contain a call to action

What do you think?
