For any of you that are unsure about whether Morph is for you, we have setup a new demo where you can login and kick the tires and get a feeling for Configurator and Morph. Please note that the demo will be refreshed every hour.
Backend demo
The point of the admin demo is to get a feel for Configurator. Please note that while we are working on the cross browser fixes, the admin demo is best viewed in Firefox 3.5.
Url: http://morph-demo.prothemer.com/administrator
Login details: Username: admin | Password: demo
When logged in, go to Components -> Configurator and login with the same details.
Frontend demo
The frontend is set to use the Vanilla themelet by default, but we have also installed the sexy Light Candy themelet to give you an idea of how the actual themelets work.
Url: http://morph-demo.prothemer.com
Things to try out in the demo:
-
Customize the colors, background, logo settings and more.
The customize tab has loads of options to customize your sites look and feel.
-
Configure how your sites blocks are outputted.
Each block has a number of different configuration options.
-
Play with the different module chromes that are available.
Automatic tabs, accordions, grids, etc. Look in the various blocks tabs.
-
Set different sidebar layouts for your installed components.
Set default sidebar layouts for components in the General > Component Defaults tab.
-
Try out the built in keyboard shortcuts.
Press ctrl + k (or cmd + k if your on mac) to see a list of available keyboard shortcuts.
-
Toggle between the normal and fullscreen mode.
Press ctrl + f or use the fullscreen link to toggle between fullscreen & normal mode.
-
Browse your sites assets with the assets manager.
Browse and manage your sites media from within Configurator.

Love the GUI, nice help functions. Calling a component Configurator is an understatement in this case I think. I expected buttons and selectboxes, but not this many! Yikes. Took me a while to just get to the actual themelets, if that’s what you’re calling the templates now? Complicate-much.
Might be because I write code myself that I find it much easier to write #fff instead of having to pick it from a colour picker.
Sorry for the negativity here. If this somehow makes my templates easier to develop, while I still can prevent customers from messing around with the template colour themes, then we might be on to something.
Hey Torkil,
Sorry for the belated reply – i totally thought i replied ages ago, but looking again it seems i must have dreamt my reply :P
Thanks for taking the time to share your impressions of Morph! We realize that there are a lot of options and its a bit much to take in at first, but we really wanted to give people as much control as possible and will constantly be refining the ui to make all the options nice and digestible.
We’ve already done a ton of work in the overall workflow of Configurator, but it’s a constant process and being the perfectionists we are, it probably won’t be perfect (in our minds at least!) for some time yet. Our goal is to make it a masterpiece, showcasing some of the latest technologies while being something our parents would have no problem using :P
As Kyle pointed out, our reasoning behind creating our own naming conventions (however whacky) was to prevent confusion with existing joomla templates. We still have a lot of work ahead of us in terms of documentation, tutorials and help videos – but i assure you once we we’re done, Morph will be the most well documented template engine out there!
Sorry for the long reply – i tend to get a bit carried away when i’m excited :P
Cheers,
Chris

@torkil I disagree, it’s to avoid complication/confusion with existing Joomla terminology. We always have trouble explaining how a JomSocial template or Community Builder template is installed VS a Joomla template. Keep is separate.
As a Joomla template club, this is the most exciting thing we’ve ever seen for the Joomla template industry.
Bravo guys, can’t wait to start building themelets!

Hey Kyle,
You are spot on about our reasoning for going with our own naming conventions :) That and we just like the sound of themelets :P
I have to say that after reading your comment, all of us were walking around the office with the fattest grins on our faces!! :D All of us are super excited for you guys to start building themelets!! We’re aiming to have an RC out this week, so I’ll be in touch soon to discuss getting you guys started ;)

Thanks Tom, glad you like it ;)

Oh the possibility the limits oh there is no limits as long you have imagination.
So much choice so much great work I had my reservation about it.Though was one of those flaky crazy program.Only downside I can see it made by joomlajunkie and could scare users by the name, however morph is great.Worth every penny’s.
Should be nomintated as one of 2009 best new idea.

Hi Pierre,
Thanks for stopping by :) I’m really happy to hear that you are finding Morph useful!! It’s a sign that we’ve done something right ;)
Your comment about the name being the only thing that might put people off, are you referring to JoomlaJunkie?
If so, we are in the process of re-branding to Prothemer, but its going slower than we would have liked, as all of our time is going into Morph. Once Morph is stable we’ll start work on the new site and brand again, after which everything should be a lot smoother and easy to use :)
Cheers,
Chris

I tried he demo and it seems complicated plus I could not figure out how to use different templates/module positions.
Do you have a video Demo?
Hi JD,
Thanks for stopping by :) We are working on a whole bunch of video demos, which will showcase Morph’s specific features, in easy bite sized chunks ;)
To see the module positions available, you can check the position map which can be viewed in Configurator by clicking on the Position Map link in the top shelf (look under Quick reference guides).
Keep in mind that most of those positions can automatically be turned into grids, holding up to 5 modules per row).
We will be constantly refining and simplifying where ever possible, to ensure that its super easy to use.
Hope that helps!

I am currently not using Joomla Junkie as a template provider, but after reading the individual responses to each person’s comments/suggestions (Chris) I am extremely interested in the service you provide. This is very impressive! Now, if only i wasn’t in college and had bills looming , or i would have my credit card out ordering a subscription right now!
Hey Luke,
Thanks for the kind words! We’re all passionate about our business and this generally oozes out onto everything / everyone (:P) that we come in contact with ;)

Hi,
Great concept and kudos to you all.
I went into Admin, components and when I click on configurator, I get the following error message in the “try before you buy” demo site.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function getTemplateParamList() in /home/morphde/public_html/administrator/components/com_configurator/controller.php on line 162
Can you let me once it is fixed or if there is an alternate location I can try the demo.
Thanks
Hi Sean,
The demo is back up. Let me know if you have any more issues with it :)
Thanks,

After modding Mocha a fair bit (with help here and there from Chris), this is the answer to all the questions I have asked on the forums.
Just installed morph to a seperate site and it’s a serious piece of kit!
Incredibly powerful structure you guys have built here, the level of control without hardcoding is unreal- just need to stop playing around with it and get down to the next build!
Cheers Guys!
Mav
PS Merry Christmas!
Thanks Mav! We have some yummy updates planned for 2010, which will take Morph & Configurator even further! Stay tuned ;)
Chris´s last blog ..Morph updated – new versions across the board
At first I thought this is frickin amazing, could give me the flexibility for doing sites quickly and effortlessly but then I tried to alter the module (or blocks as you call them) and it all went downhill from there I’m afraid. Perhaps you could give more info on this as my page layout didn’t change at all! :(
Why can’t you edit the Modules to get a feel for adjusting a particular page layout? There were errors Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/morphde/public_html/administrator/components/com_configurator/includes/configurator.functions.php on line 67
Hi Emma,
Thanks for stopping by :)
The issues you are experiencing are due to some bugs that were present in Configurator before, which have subsequently been fixed.
We’re in the process of redoing the Configurator demo, as the current version is still using the old sample content and base structure.
I’ll drop you a mail once its updated :)
Cheers,
Chris
OK great! I must admit I spent hours on the demo last night and can definitely see how this is going to make things easier for me when wanting to quickly put a site together. The only thing I have yet to grasp is really making the layout custom but again that was simply down to the errors but not to worry, sure I’ll pick it up soon enough! Tutorials are ace by the way and guys, keep up the good work – Morph simply ROCKS!!!!! x:)
Hey Emma :)
Glad to hear you are seeing potential in what Morph brings to the template market ;)
I’ve managed to upgrade the versions in the Configurator demo, so for most parts it should be working properly now, but i still need to replace the demo with our new Quick Installer, as the current demo is still based on the first version.
I’ll only get a chance to do the upgrade next week, but i’ll let you know once its all up and running :)
Have a great weekend!
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris :) I have been using Joomla for a couple of a years for client websites and mainly use templates so I can definitely see how Morph will allow me flexibility with the layout as I’m no serious PHP coder! I have a client’s site to develop the week after next and it’s a simple structure of a header and left and right module positions so I’m gonna give Morph a spin and see how I get on, will email you if I need any support! When will the first release be available for download?
Hey Emma :)
Great to hear that are going to give Morph a try! We’ll be standing by to assist you with anything you get stuck on ;)
I’m not sure what you mean about when the first release will be available for download? Morph is already stable and available to all our members. What that what you were referring to? If not, let me know :)
Cheers,
Chris
Chris´s last blog ..New stable version of Morph, Configurator and Vanilla now available
Loving “Morph” amazing stuff thanks for the demo. However, can “Morph” be used for RTL sites, such as Arabic and Hebrew right off the bat? Or does it need tweaking ??
Thanks :)
Hey Turk :)
Thanks for the kind words! Regarding your question about the RTL, this is something that’s is very important to us. As it stands Morph will automatically include the rtl css file from the framework, which will take care of the base rtl stuff, then if you wanted to further tweak this, you could copy the rtl.css file into the themelets css folder and Morph will automatically use that one instead. We are definitely planning on extending this and i’ll probably be setting up a separate area on the forum to get all interested members involved to discuss what needs to be done to take this to the next level :)
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Caio,
Can you please try again. We’re still in the process of redoing the current Configurator demo, but in the mean time the current version should be working again.
Thanks,

Chris´s last blog ..New release: Urban Writer blog and portfolio style themelet
It all looks great but when I try to ’save your settings’ it goes to a 404 page error and if I try to change a themlet it gives an error message like this:
Warning: getimagesize(/home/morphde/public_html/morph_assets/logos/creativa-logo.png) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/morphde/public_html/templates/morph/core/morphVars.php on line 14
It’s a shame as if the demo worked I’d probably buy it!
Hey Greg,
Whoops, i thought i’d replied to your comment ages ago but it seems i only “thought” about replying! Sorry about that! :P
Those errors you are seeing are specific to the demo (which is due it being open to public and stuff getting deleted by people playing with the demo). I’m still trying to figure out the best way to “lock” configurator down to prevent this, but in the mean time if you would like i can setup a private demo for you to play on – just let me know :)
Cheers,
Chris
