The Joomla template framework Morph is now GPL and free
As mentioned in our previous blog post, we’re doing some house cleaning to clarify our business offerings. This blog post tells you about the first steps we took a few months back; going GPL and creating a new online home for the Morph template framework.
In the beginning of 2009, you could download the Morph template framework for Joomla for the first time. Our members know it’s come a loooong way since those early days!
Thanks to the feedback from our members, and hard work by our team and business partners,
Morph 2.0 was released earlier this year and in August we made Morph
freely available under the General Public License (GPL).
Please note: Only Joomlajunkie members have access to support, as well as downloads of our commercial themelets. See plans and pricing.
So, what’s new?
Morph has grown big and popular, so we decided to give it its own home on the web. The blog posts below will take you to the new website, and give you all the info:
Blog post: Welcome to Morph’s new home
“The launch of getmorph.org marks an important milestone for Morph, and we’re really excited about what the future will bring for both Morph and the Morph Community.
This post will outline where we’re currently at, and give you an idea of things coming up over the next few months.”

Blog post: Morph for Joomla is now GPL and free
“Working with Joomla, you’ve most likely come across something called GPL (General Public License). Have you ever thought about what it means for you and for the developers of the software?
This blog post will talk briefly about what the GPL is, what it means for you, and why the Morph framework for Joomla is now licensed under the GPL.”

We hope you like the new direction, and we’re looking forward to having you on board for the journey ahead! If you have any questions or feedback, please comment below or contact us on Twitter. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I do love Morph and I am eagerly awaiting the coming migration to Nooku framework etc
however, it wouldbe so great o have more frequent updates as to what is going on. The Prothemer wbebsite has been mentioning changes to come in the next few weeks for some years now…is it really going to be the new home of Joomla Junkie in ‘weeks’ ?
Hi Laurence,
Chris has been planning a multi-part blog post, which covers the current state of affairs with regards to Morph, Prothemer and a bunch of other exciting developments.
We realize we’ve been a bit quite and haven’t done a great job keeping you all in the loop, but that is only because we’re hard at work getting Morph ready for 2.5 and finishing the new Prothemer site.
We decided to shelf the Nooku version, as it was holding us back and not having a Joomla 1.6/1.7 version of Morph has impacted the business a lot.
We still believe in Nooku, but without the necessary skills in-house (and there being a general shortage of Nooku developers available) we had to rethink our strategy for Morph.
As such, we have partnered with the talented guys from Techjoomla, who are currently helping us with the standard upgrade of Morph to Joomla 2.5.
The new version will be a unified package, working on both Joomla 1.5 and 2.5. Once the general support for 1.5 has been dropped by Joomla, we will follow suite and remove the Joomla 1.5 compatibility layer.
Regarding the Prothemer site, we’re working furiously to get the new site finished, so that we can finally move away from the JJ brand.
We’ve put a ton of thought into the new site and merged as many of our systems as possible, while providing a much smoother experience for our members. We’re going to refrain from specifying an actual launch date, but it’ll definitely be within Q1 of this year.
The Morph 2.5 conversion is going well and so far, Morph is installable on 1.7 and most of the functionality in Configurator is working.
I know this probably doesn’t answer all of your questions, but the blog post Chris is writing for the new Prothemer site launch will cover our future plans in a lot more detail.
If there are any specific questions you’d like answered, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Cheers,
Tess
