Pure CSS3 Infobox, with no additional presentational markup

I recently came across a really interesting article that showcased some of the sweet goodness that can be achieved using css3 – the end result being a really slick infobox with 3d ribbons, that uses no images at all.

The article was inspired by another similar post (“How to create depth and nice 3d ribbons only using css3″), written by piervix from PVMGarage. Both were great articles, but one thing that bugged me in both, was the need for additional presentational markup, which served no purpose to the actual content. (more…)

How to customize the width of your site – with and without Morph’s Configurator

All layouts in Morph use the (Yahoo) YUI CSS grid framework, which has 4 default layouts (doc widths): 750px, 950px, 974px and 100%. These are easily set using Morph’s Configurator (General tab).

5 Firefox plugins for website development

The age old debate: IE vs Firefox? Well, we already know that Firefox is fast taking over IE’s dominance as the favorite web browser – but there are still a those that choose IE because they don’t know any better. I hope that after reading this (if you aren’t already using Firefox that is) you will be convinced that Firefox is the way to go.

First things first, if you are not using Firefox to develop and build your websites you need to start. Firefox is the defacto standard and if you are trying to build a website in IE you are making things 10 times harder on yourself so, let’s make you a better person. (more…)

How to fix xhtml and css validation errors in Virtuemart

In case you don’t already know, Virtuemart is an online shopping cart extension for Joomla! and is often listed as one of the most popular Joomla! extensions available.

Last week I received a private message on our forum from one of our members saying that his Virtuemart store was failing css validation and asked whether i would take a look to see if the issue was related to the template, or his Virtuemart setup. After taking a look at the validation error and the xhtml output, it was easy to spot what was causing the problem. (more…)
